Meet Mynk Richardson-Clerk
Mynk is a Political Science and Philosophy major with a minor in Social Change Leadership at North Central College. She loves to combine my two greatest passions, athletics and activism, into what she calls athletivism. She is the first African-American to play lacrosse at North Central College and for the 2018 season, she alone, took a knee during the national anthem at each game.
Q+A
What makes you laugh?
I absolutely love puns. They krill me every time…sea what I did there? I’m shore you did.
Favorite quote?
“Do not be anxious about anything, but by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ”. Philippians 4:6-7
How long do you think you would you survive the zombie apocalypse? Why?
The bitter end. Why? Because when everyone else runs out of bullets in their guns, I will have my samurai swords to protect me.
Who do you admire?
I have recently come to greatly admire LeBron James. As an athlete I admire him because despite receiving a multitude of hate from various places, he still is able to go out on the court and dominate. On the philanthropic side, he funds various educational programs in his hometown among other things. He just built an amazing school for children in his home town and that is similar to what I want to do. He handles hate, money, and fame with a lot more grace than people give him credit for.
What do you hope will be different by this time next year?
I have several projects that I am working on both on my campus and in my community. I am working to get better diversity training and to bring more social awareness to my campus through our diversity club and athletics. I am also working on starting a program in my community that is geared towards students of color and focuses on lacrosse, academics, and activism. I am hoping to have these projects finished by next year.
